I'm fundraising for Bravehearts

I have been searching for a way to support my husband- a survivor of child sexual abuse- and heard about this amazing charity only recently. They not only educate and support families, carers and children, but provide much needed support and links to services for ongoing challenges faced by adult survivors of this type of abuse. This issue has impacted my family deeply and very personally, and I know many others who have tragically been affected by child sexual abuse. 

This year I'm joining forces with my daughter Mikayla and, together, we will be facing a huge fear by jumping out of a perfectly serviceable airplane…on purpose! All this with the goal of raising funds and awareness for the prevention of child sexual abuse.

Bravehearts Day is Friday 6th September, 2024 but we will keep our page open until the day after we jump to maximise donations to our cause. We are planning to face our fear in October and will share the date once it is booked.

Please help us aim high and reach our goal by donating to our fundraiser. Together we can fight child sexual abuse!

I live with Treatment Resistant Depression and PTSD as a result of childhood abuse. I’m not ashamed of it, I was a child and had no control over what happened.

My #mentalhealth is something I need to keep concious of and constantly practice self awareness to keep functioning and ensure I am performing at the highest standard possible.

I’ve been lucky enough to have had the support of friends, coworkers and managers over the years. Never more so than I enjoy now I can gladly say. The person I am most grateful for giving her unwavering support to me over the last 28 years is my wife, Deb.

She has been my anchor, stopping me from washing up on the rocks and becoming a shipwreck more times than I can count over the years.

Deb and our daughter Mikayla have  signed up to raise money for Bravehearts. Bravehearts is an Australian child protection organisation founded in 1997, which is solely dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. Understandably a charity very close to home.

Bravehearts works to prevent child sexual abuse by educating children and young people about personal safety, including body ownership, cyber-safety and consent. Their flagship program is Ditto's Keep Safe Adventure (for children aged 3 to 8). 

Bravehearts also provides counselling and support for children and families affected by sexual abuse. They also offer a national Information and Support Line (1800 272 831), case management for adult survivors seeking Redress, and intervention for children and young people with harmful sexual behaviours.

So in the spirit of being Bravehearts, Deb and Mikayla are doing something that terrifies them both to try and raise funds for an organisation that is working tirelessly to prevent beautiful kids from becoming broken people like me. They are going to jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane!

I know things are tight all over, cost of living is crazy. If you can make a coffee in the work kitchen instead of buying one, or pack your lunch one day instead of buying it and find five, ten or twenty dollars to donate, that would be amazing and very, very much appreciated.
